Check Out the Trailer for Playstation's Original Superhero Drama Powers (VIDEO)

Check Out the Trailer for Playstation's Original Superhero Drama Powers (VIDEO) A television adaptation of the graphic novel Powers has been bouncing around Hollywood for years now. Way back in 2009, FX cast Jason Patric as the star and even shot a pilot, but the network ultimately passed on the project and it faded away. Or so we thought, as Powers would eventually land somewhere unexpected: PlayStation? Earlier this year, Powers became the first original program to be developed for the PlayStation Network, the online service that's most famous for matching up online gamers. And finally, after five long years, we have our first good look at the series, courtesy of a new trailer that was released over the weekend at New York Comic-Con. But first, a little background on what Powers is all about. Brian Michael Bendis created the comic Powers in 2000; it follows a pair of detectives who investigate cases involving superheroes and supervillains. See, in their world, superpowered people (a.k.a. Powers) are as common as superhero movies and TV shows are in our world. Detective Christian Walker ( District 9's Sharlto Copley on the TV series) is a former Power turned cop, and he's partnered with unpowered Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward). There, you're caught up. Enjoy the trailer! I've waited eagerly for this project for half a decade, so... color me underwhelmed? Knowing that Powers will be PlayStation Network's first original series, I've been curious as to what kind of budget it might have, and it doesn't look like Sony forked over much cash. For a show about superpowers, there aren't many powers in the trailer, even though they're obviously a selling point. And Copley's American accent doesn't go down the earholes too well. But I love the idea of a cop show set in a superhero world, so I'm hoping that strong writing will make up for other deficiencies. Powers will debut exclusively on PlayStation Network—you'll need a PS3 or PS4 and a $50/year subscription to watch—this December.
