Sony releases media player for PlayStation 4 on the eve of E3

With E3 proper beginning in Los Angeles tomorrow, Sony announced the release of their all new Playstation Media Player. The player will be available for download tonight on the PlayStation 4, and allow playback of a wide variety of music and movie formats.

Here's the new Xbox One user interface coming this Fall

Today on Microsoft's official Xbox at E3 stream, Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb and Xbox One Platform Manager Richard Irving gave a first look at some big changes coming to Xbox One this Fall — though Windows 10 users might notice quite a lot of familiar scenery. Microsoft is demoing a new UI for the Xbox One that looks remarkably like the Xbox app on Windows 10, and it's bringing other Windows elements with it in the form of Cortana, a digital assistant that responds to voice commands. Hyrb and Irving stressed the speed and fluidity of the new interface in their demonstration, likely in acknowledgement of the consistent complaints of slowness and stutters by Xbox One owners, despite a steady stream of updates and features pushed to the console since its launch in 2013.

Gears of War 4 coming holiday 2016 to Xbox One

The Gears of War franchise returns — under new management — with Gears of War 4 on the Xbox One from The Coalition, studio head Rod Fergusson announced today during Microsoft's E3 2015 press briefing. Fergusson presented a live gameplay demo featuring two characters on the screen. Microsoft bought the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games in 2014, and assigned it to its in-house Black Tusk Studios.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition brings the original to Xbox One on Aug. 25

Xbox One will get Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a remastered Gears of War on Aug. 25, in the 10th anniversary year of the original's launch, Microsoft announced today at its E3 news conference. A one-week public beta of the game already is underway, said Rod Fergusson, head of Gears' home studio The Coalition. The latest, a retail listing overseas this weekend, said Gears of War Ultimate Edition will feature additional content that was only available on the game's PC release in 2007.
